Interesting tidbit - the Volt doesn't produce enough heat under the hood to melt the snow off! It's a '13 I bought it last December and up to 8500 miles on it, ~6500 of which are electric.

I still think that Ford using ZETEC as a trim level in some markets is utterly moronic. ZETEC is a line of petrol engines and seeing a car that's both a TDCI and a ZETEC makes me cringe.

I do have to agree, although it never occurred to me until you mentioned it. It's been a trim level for so many years in the UK, at least since the Focus came out.

Yes. Yes it does. :D

Luckily though, trim levels had less confusing names in other markets. We got:

- Ambiente (basic trim)

- Trend (Ambiente with sporty bits for most cars, equivalent of Comfort for others)

- Comfort (middle level)

- Ghia/Titanium (top level)

- ST (sporty, available in some cars)

It's still confusing, but better than a diesel ZETEC.

It's fun, actually. I didn't expect to like it, but it has plenty of power when the boost kicks in and handles well. I still can't believe how small it is inside. It seems physically larger than our old Suzuki SX4, but it has much less interior and trunk space.

There's some tire noise, but I tend to notice wind noise anywhere from 45-55 MPH.

Then again, since most of my driving experience is with an '05 Toyota Matrix (a tin can in comparison to this Focus), I'm probably just tuning out any noise that seems normal to me and doesn't stand out. It's a quiet car that rides and handles well, in my opinion.

It handles surprisingly well. The OEM tires are designed for fuel efficiency so some Pilots really liven it up. They did a lot of work making it stay pretty flat in the corners. It drives like more like our Passat or a big european car than an american small car. Responsive and tight, but you can tell it's heavy. The electric assist steering keeps a very light touch on the steering wheel though.

Driving electric is so smooth and satisfying it's like nothing else out there. It's not "fast" but it's impressively quick, especially considering how heavy the little guy is. GM really pulled out all the stops when they built these, fit and finish is much better than other GMs I've dealt with (nearly all my cars ever).

Satisfaction - I give it a 9 only in that the back seat is just a bit shy on legroom when I'm driving (I'm tall, I couldn't fit behind me but my kids do). I went into it knowing full well that it only had 4 seats and besides my old Chevette and MG it's the smallest car I've ever owned. I'm more used to Buicks or roomier cars. It's very easy to plug in - takes about 15 seconds extra each day to plug in and unplug in the morning. I have to put gas in the tank every 4-6 weeks or so.

Beware that the Volt is a gateway to becoming more energy efficient - you start to think about your electric bill a little more - we switched to 'Time of Use" billing from our electric company so we get a discount overnight and adjusted some of our electric use around the house to off-peak hours, so even though I use more electricity (about 300 kWh/month extra) our bill has actually dropped since I started driving the Volt. We're thinking about a solar system now!

Thats really cool. I wondered how the power felt, especially under that weight, but its good to know that its still an enjoyable ride. The back does seem cramped. Someone parks one on the street by my building and I have noticed there isn't a lot of room. Aside from that the interior looks great, and really goes well with the attitude of the car. I am surprised by the energy bill reduction, but greater consciousness is always a good thing. The solar panels sound like an investment but over time well worth it. Good luck with that setup!

Thankfully, the car's been sold recently and my dad will soon be temporarily switching to a Genesis 2.0T 6-speed (YEEEEEEEES!) for about month.

It was super reliable, quick as hell, and oh so tight in the corners. Sadly, i was 20 when i had it and i liked to drive like a moron at inappropriate times... eventually totaled it and learned a valuable life lesson.

That Rockhopper is a damn good bike. As somebody who rode cheap department stall bikes it was a godsend. Managed to snag the tail end of the '09s for dirt cheap. With the exception of the road bikes I managed to kick everybody's ass on campus whether fixie or SS or MTB. Roundabouts are a flipping blast.

Sadly the brakes and OEM rear tire are shot after a few thousand miles and the rear drivetrain is pretty badly beaten after crashes and shitty maintenance but I'm going to upgrade to Deore Vs and get another slick. It'll kick ass again. :D

Sucks that your GS-R is gone. :( As somebody who got a license relatively late (19) and the car a few months before my 22nd birthday next week, I've made a promise to keep the damn car running as long as I can which means no stupid driving or street racing.

Out the door 35,5K plus sales tax etc, but don't forget the fed gives you an additional $7500 credit for buying an EV plus some states give even more (CA and IL something like an additional $4K). Mine had options making the MSRP $42,5. At the time there was 0% financing as well so I paid the sales tax and their weird little fees and financed only the 35.5K.

I wish I could give everybody a ride in it. It really will change the way you think about these things. It's just not easy to cram all it does into a 15 or 30 second spot on TV.

I started out hating this car. Having gone to a private school on financial aid, it was always the ugliest and cheapest. Being a 90's Ford I was also afraid of having to pour money into it to maintain it. But this car keeps surprising me. Other than a plastic timing pulley that went at 50k miles, this car only had small mechanical problems, which brings me to the true charm of this car, IT FIXES ITSELF. Seriously, here are some of the problems I've had with it that it has resolved. Driver's side window wouldn't roll up, tailight shorting out, driver's side door handle fails to open door, and making engine coolant vanish. Now, after a month of having the window down, it miraculously went back up and works fine. The tailight which I used to always have to connect and disconnect to get it to work now works fine. The driver's side door handle also opens every time. And its been running nice and cool and keeping great coolant levels for over a year now. I really don't know how it does it, but I guess it knows it won't get fixed by me and takes matters into its own hands.

I wouldn't really call it a daily, since I don't commute by car, but it does get a fair share of use per week. Also doubles as camper, track toy, sofft roader, the works. I love it to bits (that seem to fall off every now and then).

B234E engine, originally low pressure turbo, remapped to a claimed 240HP (by previous owner, club president and a few other fellas). *shrug* I don't care, feels fast enough for me, I'd rather have me some more grip vs more power at the moment. When I get into some money, new rubber (wider?) and piggyback rear anti roll bar. Though, the only time I spun it was on lift-off oversteer, so I dunno about that ARB. Harumph.

The paint is peeling under the hood & rear hatch. The tranny winds up and clunks when you come to a stop. The brakes are spongy, the seats are uncomfortable after a few hours. I'm constantly pissed that I bought this piece of shit Ford. I know it shouldn't, but I'd have a real problem buying another Blue Oval car. I wish I'd bought the VW Golf at another dealer instead.

I live in west michigan and its only my summer car. I have a beater for my winter vehicle.

Its pretty awesome to daily drive. Makes things more fun. I try to have the top down as much as i can because its much better that way. My only problem is the ride is sometimes a bit rough over MI roads. I have the ls package which has the lsd and sport suspension, and the leather seats can sometimes be hot in the sun.

S2000 are pretty good cars. I personally like Miatas way better but i am also biased. Miatas have tons of aftermarket support and cheap replacement parts. They are also cheaper to purchase too. I picked mine up for less that 7k and it had 56,xxx on it. Its not perfect but i drive it like it was made for...

As i stated before i am also biased towards miatas so i would encourage it over a s2000.

I have been blessed with a free company vehicle for the last 8 years so wont catch me complaining. Company doles out new ones at about 100000 miles so this is actually my 4th caravan and must say it is certainly more pleasant than the older models I've had. Also when i started they gave me a well used Aztech from a retiree and later a jeep liberty. Lots of guys pick the full size vans as we do have a choice but this thing is so comfortable comparatively and now that they did away with the 3.3 and made the pentastar the base engine i can actually merge and even occasionally pass!!:)

'92 GTI 16V. Finally running reliably, but I'm building up what should be a really fun street engine to drop in shortly. It's been the least reliable car I've ever owned, and 100% thanks to the PO f'ing up, or my own stupidity.

Oh. I love this one. And I miss mine... I had a early 89', though it had big bumpers instead of the small ones, and was painted in a white from Toyota. 250 000 km on the odometer (155k miles). But it broke after a year of buying the car, car we bought for 700€ ($930) in 2007 and sold in 2011 for almost 2k€.

I really hope to buy one again when I'll leave school.

Is this one of the elusive manual diesel wagons we all talk about so much? That's amazing.

It sure is 2.0 Turbo Diesel, 140HP, 6-spd Manual. It's got enough power, even if only 140, the only thing that lets it down is front wheel drive.

Although not exactly elusive in Europe. To be honest, I actually wanted the Mazda 6 equivalent, but money or lack of said no...

Intake and a tune, putting down about 165hp and lb/ft of torq to the wheels (a mild tune). Really wakes up the car IMHO.

I threw a short ram on my svt...it has a tune as well but its throwing a code in the computer so I might flash it... also have a borla exhaust...aftermarket is fun :) I like the cruze! They seem like quality rides

Ya its not a bad ride, good on gas, you can squeeze quite a bit of power out of the turbo and its remarkable how quiet the car is. I have my concerns about how well it'll hold together in the long run though.

My heart longs for something more exciting, but all good things come to those who wait.

I agree with the last sentence. I have been wanting to get into a RWD coupe for a while now. I am torn between a used S2000 or finding a barely used FRS/BRZ.... I have been watching them.. I have found a few with as little as 1k miles and the price is 4-5k below sticker.
